Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood has said that a proposal to gradually open schools and higher education institutions from September 15 to September 30 is under consideration under which primary schools will be opened from September 30 keeping in view the situation.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad along with Special Assistant for Health Dr Faisal Sultan, the Federal Minister said that the final consultation on the opening of educational institutions would be held on September 7 in which the proposal would be considered.

“Children’s health is our top priority. We don’t want to take any action that could affect children’s health, but the situation of coronavirus in the country is stable, and the number of infections and deaths has decreased,” he said.

He said that during the last six months, the education of the children has been severely hampered, especially the learning levels of the children of small classes have been severely affected and private schools have also been affected, especially those schools with low fees. There has been a very difficult time for them.

The course should be reduced to the remainder of the academic year, Minister of Education Shafqat Mehmood said that in order to assess the damage caused by the closure of educational institutions, the provincial governments are requested to take tests to assess the difference in the learning levels of children and to formulate their programs accordingly. The academic year is short, so consideration should be given to reducing the coursework to such an extent that it does not burden the children and does not harm education.

He hoped that if the status quo remained the same till next year, schools and schools would gradually return to the old schedule.

Informing about the situation of Corona in view of the opening of the school, the Special Assistant for Health said that the situation of Code 19 in Pakistan is better than mid-June but there is no doubt that the disease is still present and due to any carelessness. It can flare up again as a result.

Dr Faisal said the decision to close educational institutions was the most important to curb the spread of the disease, which has had far-reaching consequences.

He said that educational institutions can be closed only to a certain extent because our next generation has to get an education, learn skills, learn social issues by contacting each other so at some point educational institutions It was necessary to reopen.

Dr Faisal said that if the disease situation had not improved across the country, we could not have thought of opening educational institutions, but now we are in a much better situation.

He said that if 50 million students start going to educational institutions again, the risk will increase again. How to control this risk in which it has been decided that educational institutions for children of different ages will be opened in phases. So that its effects on children can also be assessed.

Dr Faisal said that in order to control this danger, the number of children in the class should be kept low.

He said that the best strategy for this disease is to use masks. Explaining the solution to the problem of affordability of buying masks, Dr Faisal said that it is not necessary to use surgical masks, cloth masks should be made at home. Maybe, make 2 masks and keep using them after washing, as well as hand washing or hand sanitizer.

The Special Assistant for Health said that teachers and students will be tested every 2 weeks by selecting a few of the educational payments that will be opened so that we can see where the spread of the disease is going and where. We do not need to reconsider our decision.

He added that this task cannot be handled by schools, provinces or countries alone as there are about 300,000 schools, 50 million children and about 2 million teachers, so some role has to be played by parents and teachers as well.

Dr Faisal urged parents and teachers to cooperate with the educational institutions.

He said that children who are sick or have low immunity should not be sent to school in the first instance and secondly, in the houses where the elderly are present, efforts should be made to keep a distance from the children coming from outside.
